Moissan was established WHEN I PROPOSED
Born out of a need to find a sustainable engagement ring
It all started when in early 2020 when I began my quest for the perfect engagement ring for my future wife, who is deeply passionate about sustainability. I knew that the engagement ring I proposed with had to be conflict- and mining-free, and still beautiful and brilliant, something we could pass on through the generations.
I soon found out that it was exceedingly difficult to find sustainable fine jewelry, in particular the stunning center stone. Through my search for the engagement ring, I found lab-grown diamond and moissanite. I also found these sustainable precious stones incredibly challenging to source. Through my own journey, the first steps to founding Moissan had been taken.
My wife and I have a strong passion for nature and sustainability, so I decided that every gemstone sold by Moissan will be carbon neutral and support the reforestation of natural ecosystems around the world, reversing the effects from the many years of ecosystem degradation caused by traditional gemstone mining.

Our Namesake
Moissan is named in honor of French chemist Ferdinand Frédéric Henri Moissan, a Nobel Prize winner, who first theorized that diamonds could be synthesized by crystallizing carbon under pressure.
Ferdinand Moissan was the first to discover moissanite, in a meteor found in Canyon Diablo, Arizona in 1893. Until the 1950s, no other source for moissanite than meteorites had been encountered.
Moissanite was the first of the lab-grown stones that caught our attention, as a brilliant, durable, and beautiful gem that provides a sustainable alternative to mined stones.
